MAY 2011
This Business e-Newsletter is designed to keep you on top of new and upcoming announcements for the ProQuest business product line, and introduce you to some of the complementary resources on Dialog.
ProQuest builds business content to bring you mission-critical insights
ProQuest has continued to invest heavily in business content from around the world — not just in scholarly journals, but in a full range of content types from peer-reviewed to trade and industry reports and market-research materials. Here is a review of some of the major content we added in 2010:
- 150 new scholarly journals in full text from well-known leaders in scholarly publishers such as Palgrave Macmillan, Emerald, IUP and others. Publications such as Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management and Marketing Research, International Journal of Lean Six Sigma, IUP Journal of Financial Risk Management, IUPJournal of Marketing Management, plus many other titles cutting across all sections of business research.
- New data and reports from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, International Labour Organization, World Bank, and OECD will help researchers put their work in context.
- Business News Content including The Economist.
- Open Web Article Linking introduced in 2010, connects the abstract and index record of select periodicals to its full-text article on the publisher's open web site. Included among the titles currently linked are:
- Time
- U.S News & World Report
- Kiplinger's Personal Finance
- Forbes (note full-text backfile for this title remains in ProQuest products)
Note that links are included on records only for freely accessible articles on the web and not for articles behind a paywall. ProQuest platform search results with these titles will display the abstract and index record, and a link to full text, that when clicked takes users to the full-text article on the publisher's open web site. In addition to the titles noted above is data and research from the Bureau of Labor Statistics-Consumer Price Index.
Partnerships formed with key content providers
In 2010 we were able to secure long-term preferred partnerships with The Economist and Palgrave Macmillan. We're happy to provide you with the details below.*
The Economist — Preferred Partner Agreement
ProQuest is pleased to announce that it has secured a Preferred Partner Agreement with The Economist magazine securing our ability to deliver this premier business and economics weekly "viewspaper" via the ProQuest platform.
Palgrave Macmillan — Preferred Partner Agreement
Palgrave Macmillan is an acknowledged leader in scholarly publishing and brings a stable of top-ranked titles across multiple disciplines. ProQuest has for some time had several of the Palgrave journals on an exclusive basis. As part of a new Preferred Partner agreement, an additional 33 titles will be converted to exclusive basis and another 10 new titles will be added — making for a total of 63 exclusive and 14 non-exclusive publications. The following are some examples of the titles, including Palgrave's flagship, Journal of International Business Studies, that are part of the agreement:
- Journal of International Business Studies
- Asian Business & Management
- Geneva Papers on Risk & Insurance
- Acta Politica
- Journal of International Relations Development
*Varying publisher embargoes apply.

EconLit integrated into the Business vertical on the ProQuest platform
When CSA Illumina was integrated into the new platform, it opened up new time-saving ability to connect to full text from abstract and index content if available with your subscriptions. For subscribers to EconLit who also have ABI/INFORM®, this means that the EconLit A&I file is enhanced with full-text content from ABI/INFORM provided your library subscribes to ABI/INFORM.
The value of this integration has never been better. Full text links on EconLit have grown 60% since January 2008 with more than 400 titles found in EconLit now available in ABI/INFORM and nearly 280 active full-text titles.
Produced by the American Economic Association, EconLit is recognized worldwide for its authoritative coverage of the literature of economics and related disciplines, ranging from general economics and economic theory, to microeconomics, macroeconomics, economic history, economic development and more. It indexes over 750 journals as well as other publication types including books, working papers, dissertations, and book reviews, with a total record count of over 935,000.
ProQuest Medical Evidence Matters aids decision-makers
For competitive intelligence and market-share penetration, do you need to know the efficacy of treatments, drugs or alternatives in the market? Medical Evidence Matters (MEM) helps you assess therapy options for known medical conditions by comparing outcomes from the peer-reviewed literature. Medical Evidence Matters supports researchers, clinicians, librarians, and decision-makers in finding the best evidence for medical decisions. It covers 10 subject areas including cardiology, gynecology, neurology, oncology, pediatrics and respiratory disorders, to name some.
Presented on an easy-to-use interface, Medical Evidence Matters presents evidence for the effectiveness of therapies in data from many thousands of research articles from hundreds of leading peer-reviewed journals. Databases such as MEDLINE®, CINAHL® and Cochrane are continuously reviewed for new articles that meet the criteria for inclusion in MEM. Results are organized into summary graphs and tables, helping you to gauge the evidence for the effectiveness of the range of therapy options for individual patients.
Unlike other tools which heavily rely on expert opinion, Medical Evidence Matters is the only tool that can help you find — quickly — all the evidence from the peer-reviewed research that is relevant to individual patient-oriented questions. The result? Spend less time reading, and more time analyzing the market.
Results can be customized to allow you to assess alternative therapies, alternative patient characteristics (e.g. age, sex, etc.), alternative treatment characteristics, and alternative research characteristics (e.g. type of research, place of research, quality of research, etc.). You can also compare effectiveness of therapies based on a range of clinical outcomes.
