ProQuest IQ

JANUARY 2011

This Business e-Newsletter is designed to keep you on top of new and upcoming announcements for the ProQuest business product line, and introduce you to some of the complementary resources on Dialog.

2011 ushers in the All-New ProQuest Platform

ProQuest Platform Search The launch of the all-new ProQuest Platform gains momentum as customers with databases including ProQuest ABI/INFORM Complete™, ProQuest Central, CSA Illumina and four Chadwyck-Healey™ products have started receiving their SwitchedOn kits to the new platform. Highlights include a unified platform, meaning that eventually all the ProQuest databases will be accessible on the one platform.

Three levels of cross searching are now available:

  • All available products within a customer's subscription package
  • Subject level
  • Database level

All ProQuest databases belong to one or more subject areas and they appear based on the customer's subscription package. Much work went into designing the platform to make search and retrieval easier for the end-user. For example, a Serials Solution technology embedded within the new platform allows searchers the ability to retrieve results from non-ProQuest databases.

Customers who have seen demos of the new platform rave about its innovative functionality:

  • A visual date-trail tool found within the “Narrow results by” panel
  • Article preview allowing searchers to mouse over an icon to view an abstract of an article without leaving the current screen
  • Thumbnail image views from Deep Indexing searches
  • Hit term highlighting
  • Reference linking
  • My Research personal work space where searchers can save articles, create tags, manage folders, alerts, RSS feeds and share data

Hoover's content comes to ProQuest corporate customers

Companies Image Most professional business searchers can now add Hoover's™ Company Records to their ABI/INFORM® and ProQuest Central services. Hoover's is a valuable resource for business researchers. Featuring premium profiles of more than 44,000 companies, 600 industries and 225,000 key executives, Hoover's provides easy entrance to the most thorough and up-to-date business information available.

The database contains

  • Company overviews
  • Company histories
  • Officers and board members
  • Competitors
  • Products and operations
  • Auditors
  • Rankings
  • Related industry information
  • Historical financials

With Intellidocs™ technology searchers can link from articles in ProQuest® to Hoover's Company Records. It identifies and hyperlinks all mentioned company names. When you click on a company link, Hoover's data for that company is immediately displayed. Hoover's Company Records via Intellidocs is linked to the master Hoover's database, which is updated continually with the most current information.

Economist and Economist Intelligence Unit publications are now available to corporate searchers

The EconomistProQuest and The Economist have extended their long-term agreement, securing entry to The Economist, the authoritative weekly newspaper focusing on international politics and business news and opinion. The Economist's primary focus is world news, politics and business, but it also runs regular sections on science and technology as well as books and the arts.

ProQuest has also negotiated an extended agreement with The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). This means searchers will have continued access to these highly-regarded reports available in ABI/INFORM®. Titles include Country Finance and Country Forecast reports, Country Profile, The Economist, EIU ViewsWire and World Commodity Forecasts.
