ProQuest gains recognition for technical achievement
ProQuest has ranked 17th in the 2010 InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation's most innovative users of business technology. ProQuest, best known for its creation of information and technology tools that support research, is the top-ranked Michigan-based company and even placed higher than distinguished technology giants. InformationWeek is a premier source of news and analysis of leading-edge products and vendors in the business IT industry. Its InformationWeek 500 list is considered unique among industry rankings for its spotlight on the power of innovation in information technology.
"ProQuest is seeing the payoff for its commitment to technology innovation in a number of ways," said ProQuest's Chief Information Officer Bipin Patel. "We've enabled researchers to accomplish their goals and add to the world's knowledge; libraries are able to serve their patrons with cutting-edge online services; and now, to have this recognition from an esteemed organization such as InformationWeek, is truly gratifying."
This is ProQuest's second consecutive appearance in the InformationWeek 500 and its first appearance in the top 20. The company is being recognized for its use of innovation in the development of user-centered search technologies that advance research in academic and professional settings. ProQuest Central offers a comprehensive source of global news and editorials for just about every subject, and most results are in full text. For example, searching "India and Pakistan", using quotation marks around the statement in multiple databases reveals tens of thousands of articles, some 94% of them in full text. Using advanced search, limiting the search to the last 12 months, and then clicking on Scholarly Journals, yields more than 30 articles from a variety of sources, such as the Journal of Peace Research, Terrorism & Political Violence, The Journal of Developing Areas, and Women's Studies International Forum.

Dialog teams with WIPO to support innovation in developing countries
Recognizing the critical role played by research and innovation in fostering human welfare and development, Dialog, together with other major patent information providers, has teamed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to provide access to specialized patent information sources to some of the world's least-developed countries. At a ceremony in Geneva in September, where Lynn Christie, VP of Global Product Management, represented Dialog, participating groups signed an agreement to offer access to a range of content resources via industrial property offices as well as academic and research institutions, under special access fees that reflect the state of national economies in these developing and least-developed nations.
