ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) surfaces innovators and potential employees
A doctoral dissertation can signal an eventual patent, thus making it more likely to invalidate a patent — that is, provide sufficient information to replicate an invention. Dissertations represent two to three years of focused, peer-reviewed thinking in addition to a definitive bibliography on a subject. These thousands of citations can comprise an extensive literature search. That means, for the price of a single dissertation, you purchase an in-depth literature search, at great cost and time-savings. You can search by keywords, by universities, by subjects, by authors and you can narrow by date range, language, manuscript type, such as all dissertations and theses, doctoral dissertations and master's theses. A recent quick search on nanotechnology and biotech* restricted to documents published within the last two years yielded titles like, "E2 protein cage as a multifunctional nanoplatform," by Mercè Dalmau Mallorqui, Ph.D., University of California, Irvine, 2010, and "Production of human interleukin-7 in insect cells and fabrication of microfluidic systems for high throughput cell screening," Maryam Mirzaei, Ph.D., McGill University (Canada), 2009.
