Additional Files for Chemical Structure Searching

Two new files are now enabled for chemical structure searching, bringing the total to nine.

Index Chemicus®
Index Chemicus (File 302), a text- and substructure-searchable database covering the world's leading organic chemistry journals, reports over 200,000 new compounds each year, with coverage of over 2.4 million structures published in the literature since 1993. IMS Patent Focus
IMS Patent Focus (File 447, 947) details drug names (brand names), therapeutic class codes, CAS® Registry Numbers by record, all linked to patent data, including estimated expiration date, priority details, originator, originating country and specific country comments. Check the Bluesheet for more details.

Chemical structures may be searched easily with DialogLink 5 and an image prepared in a chemical drawing program or with a .mol formatted file. Learn more about Chemical Structure Searching using DialogLink 5.

Keep Your Eye on the Molecules: Chemical Structures Added to Dialog Alerts

Dialog Alerts now allows searchers an additional way of scanning database updates for potentially important records. Up until now, our Alerts system has only let you put in text-based queries. With this enhancement, you can set up your Alerts using chemical structures with DialogLink 5 for precise chemical searching. Chemical structure Alerts are available in Derwent Chemistry Resource (File 355), Pharmaprojects (Files 128, 928) and Prous Science Drug Data Report (File 452).

PsycINFO® Reloaded on Dialog and DataStar

PsycINFO (File 11/PSYC) was reloaded on Dialog and DataStar resulting in some changes to the functionality of the file. A number of new fields have been added and the functionality of existing fields has changed. For more information, see the Bluesheet. The Online Thesaurus on DataStar (YVOC) has been replaced with the latest version.

Disease and Patient Trend Data from Dialog

Dialog offers an up-to-date collection of epidemiological information in databases provided by Timely Data Resources, Inc. Search by diagnosis (name or IDC-9 codes) to locate data on incidence, prevalence and a wealth of related information, both in the U.S. and internationally. Sources include: government health care surveys; more than 3,000 medical and trade journals; analyst reports; medical and scientific societies; industry experts; and other sources.

Incidence & Prevalence Database (File 465/IAPV) contains comprehensive data for more the 4,700 diagnoses and procedures, including epidemiology, incidence, prevalence, trends, cost, risk-factors, and disease classifications. It monitors hospital, emergency rooms, physicians' office activity and inpatient/outpatient surgical procedures. Article reviews included in each record bring you the latest medical research findings to complement the statistical data, including morbidity, mortality, natural history, concomitant diseases, cost issues, and other vital clinical and demographic information.

Also available on Dialog are Hospital Inpatient Profiles (Dialog 462), Hospital Outpatient Profiles (Dialog 463) and Emergency Room Database (Dialog 464). These databases provide data on diseases afflicting U.S. patients as reported in the annual National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Survey and National Hospital Discharge Survey. CLAIMS®/US Patents Annual Reload Completed

This year during its annual reload of CLAIMS/U.S. Patents (File 340), IFI CLAIMS has introduced a new field, Probable Assignee, which identifies the likely assignee for pre-grant publications (PGPs). Typically, U.S. patents do not identify the patent assignee until the patent is granted. With the advent of published applications, the lack of patent assignee information has caused searchers some concern. Innovating to create added value, IFI has developed an algorithm for identifying the probable patent assignee by using information from the USPTO pre-grant assignment files and relevant contact information. The new Probable Assignee field can be searched using the PA= prefix. To restrict patent assignees to probable assignees only, the suffix /PS can be applied, e.g., S PA=WALMART?/PS/.

Prous Science Drug News & Perspectives Database (PRNP) Users Directed to Prous Science Daily Essentials (PREC,PRES)

Prous Science Drug News & Perspectives (File 455/PRNP) ceased updating on November 1, 2005, but will remain on DataStar and Dialog as a closed file for the foreseeable future. Use Prous Science Daily Essentials (Files 458, 459/PREC, PRES) as a replacement for File 455/PRNP. Alerts set up in File 455/PRNP will be transferred to Prous Science Daily Essentials.
