Dear
Colleague
Welcome
to the first issue of Dialog Engineering
& High Tech News. We are very pleased to offer this
new resource designed especially for information
professionals and knowledge workers in the engineering
and high tech industries. In addition to bringing
you product and content news, search tips and other
information specific to the Dialog and DataStar products,
we will offer other items of interest from industry
experts and colleagues. Please take special note
of the "call for contributors" section.
Our goal is to make this newsletter relevant and
valuable for you, so please send us your ideas and
feedback. We look forward to hearing from you.
I
will host a Webcast entitled "Engineering
Solutions on Dialog" on Thursday,
August 4 (10:00 ET, 15:00 GMT).

Engineering Content from the CSA Collection on Dialog
More
than 30 CSA files—encompassing materials
science, aerospace, high technology, life sciences
and social sciences—are being added to Dialog
through the end of 2005. Here is a run-down on what's
available now. The new databases are concentrated
in the domain of engineering and applied science.
New databases are being added to the collection at
the rate of about one per week, so look for more
news on this expanding collection.
High
Tech and Aerospace
Aerospace & High
Technology Database* (File
108) and Solid State and Superconductivity
Abstracts (File 68) focus on basic and applied
research in aeronautics, astronautics, and space
sciences, as well as supporting fields such as chemistry,
geosciences, physics, communications and electronics.
Because solid state and superconductivity technology
has a profound impact on virtually every industry,
it is included in this category.
Dialog
is the only content aggregator to offer Technology
Research Database (TRD)* (File 23), a
comprehensive megafile comprising three categories
of content—engineering,
high technology and materials research. Check the
TRD Bluesheet for a list of subfiles included in
the database.
Materials Research
Files
in this category include METADEX®* (File
32), Aluminum Industry Abstracts (File
33), Ceramic Abstracts/World Ceramic Abstracts (File
335), Corrosion Abstracts (File
46) and Engineered Materials Abstracts (File
293). These databases contain content on materials
science, metallurgy, ceramics, polymers, and composites
used in engineering applications. Materials
Business File (File 269), with its unique
coverage of trade journals, adds a focus on industry
news, international trade data, government regulations
and management issues related to the metals and materials
industries.
Check library.dialog.com/bluesheets for
complete information about the CSA files.
*Aerospace & High
Technology Database, Technology Research Database
and METADEX are available by subscription only.
Weldasearch® (File 25) Complements CSA
Databases
A complementary database to the engineering and
materials databases from CSA is Weldasearch (File
25). Every aspect of welding and allied processes
is covered including design, materials science, fatigue
and fracture, mechanics, metallurgy materials science
and more. Search these databases using DIALINDEX®/OneSearch® category
MATERIAL for comprehensive results.
Thesaurus
Mapping Added to Engineering Files
on Dialog
DataStar
Thesaurus mapping has been added to the following engineering
databases on Dialog DataStar: Inspec® (INSP,
INZZ, IN79, IN86), Ei
Compendex® (COMP, COZZ, CO89) and NTIS
(NTIS, NTZZ). Previously, Thesaurus
mapping was available only for large biomedical files.
Thesaurus mapping makes it easy to navigate and apply
the controlled vocabulary indexing to aid in retrieving
the most relevant information available. For
more on using this powerful feature, see
the online
overview or consult
the online help in Dialog DataStarWeb.
File and Update Changes to Ei Compendex®
A new file (File
288) has been created for Ei
Compendex® with
coverage from 1990 to the present. Everything in
File 288 will still be available in File 8, which
also includes coverage from 1970 forward. The design
of File 288 is identical to that of File 8, using
the same indexing, display formats and Alert options.
In
addition, the Alert default frequency for Files
8 and 288 has changed from monthly to weekly for
all new Alerts created on and after May 1, 2005.
The frequency for Alerts created prior to May 1 will
not change. Available frequencies will be weekly
and monthly. The equivalent databases on Dialog DataStar
are COMP (1990+) and COZZ (1976+).
