Search Techniques

Wilson Business Abstracts Adds New Search and Display Options

The HW Wilson Business Abstracts (File 553) has been enhanced with several new search options in the database:

Addition of an Edition Field (Searchable ED=)
Addition of Special Feature Field (Searchable SF=)
Addition of NAICS Codes (Searchable NC=)
Addition of URLs (Display Tag UR)

In addition, the database is now current and updating on a monthly basis. For more information, consult the Bluesheet for File 553.

Search Datamonitor by Industry

Now you can find reports covering a specific industry in Datamonitor (File 760/DMON) by using the new Industry field (IN). Reports from January, 2005 to date are available. To see a list of industries on Dialog, EXPAND IN= and select the appropriate E number(s). On DataStarWeb, search using the Industry terms look-up list.

New Titles Added to Gale Group Business Databases

bar chartOver 230 titles have now been added to Gale databases, including Gale Group PROMT® (File 16/PTSP), Gale Group Trade & Industry Database™ (File 148/INDY), Business & Industry™ (File 9/BIDB) and Business & Management Practices (File 13). The titles cover multiple industries: retail, telecom, food, business, chemicals, energy, pharmaceuticals and more and range from newspapers to journals to newsletters.

Sample titles include: Africa & the Middle East Telecom, Chemical Engineering, Czech Business News, Energy Intelligence Briefing and Wine & Spirit Industry Marketing.




Additional Sources Expand Subject Areas in Dialog NewsRoom

newspapersDialog NewsRoom (File 990/NEWS) is constantly adding new providers with new sources. New sources broaden subject areas, such as Employee Benefits, as well as expanding into new areas of interest. Some of the new sources added in the last two months include:

  • 41 American city business journals covering 41 U.S. cities

  • 40 journal titles including Health Affairs, Hispanic Review, Omaha World Herald, Plant Disease, Total Health and Physical Therapy, Colorado Springs Business Journal, Nutrition and Dietician and several U.S. state Lawyer Weeklies

  • 12 International Foundation of Employee Benefits’ titles include Canadian titles: Employee Benefits News Canada and Canadian Health Care Manager

In addition, the following Tribune News titles are now in NewsRoom:

  • Los Angeles Times
  • Chicago Tribune
  • Newsday
  • Baltimore Sun
  • Orlando Sentinel

Other regional Tribune News papers are the Stamford Advocate, Allentown Morning Call, Daily Press (Newport), Greenwich Time, Hartford Courant, South Florida Sun-Sentinel and El Sentinel and Hoy (Chicago, NY & LA).




Changes to Dialog NewsRoom Coverage

newspapersEach year, the coverage of Dialog NewsRoom files shifts in order to accommodate the records of the current year. Files 991 through 995 now include articles for each of the years 2006 through 2002, respectively (see table below). File 996 now contains two years of articles: 2000 and 2001. Files 989 (current 7 days) and 990 (current 3-4 months) remain unchanged.
