DialogLink 5 Enhanced Features

DialogLink 5—the newly enhanced version of Dialog's most popular professional search tool—provides powerful new features, commands and enhanced search tools that fully integrate Dialog search results into everyday workflow.

Enhancements include:

  • Alerts — Alerts are a convenient way to set up a search to run automatically at a frequency you specify. You receive the new information by email, fax or regular mail and the results can also be delivered to other individuals. It's an excellent method of current awareness.

  • DIALINDEX — DIALINDEX is a central index to all the databases on Dialog. It allows you to compare the number of records retrieved by a certain strategy among various databases, thus allowing you to identify which file(s) contain the information you want.

  • Linking Pane — DialogLink now features a Linking Pane with sections for Help and Information, Set Links and Session Navigator. The contents of individual sections can be hidden or shown and the Linking Pane itself can be resized, changed from right to left display or hidden completely.

  • Marking Retrieve Buffer Content — Use the Mark function to transfer selected text from the Retrieve buffer in the Dialog Session window to the Marked Text window, where you can edit or add your own comments before printing and/or saving the saving the window contents.

  • Record Links — A Links link at the top of each record presents a menu of action choices that can be accomplished using data from the record.

  • Saving and Editing Search Strategies — Support for search statements of up to 2,000 characters. DialogLink offers two ways to save search strategies for reuse: (1) Issuing a SAVE command while connected to Dialog to save the strategy on the Dialog system and (2) creating a search script that’s stored locally on your PC and can be uploaded to the DialogLink Type-Ahead buffer when you want to run it.

  • Reporting Option—The Reports Tab in the DialogLink Type-Ahead buffer is used to create customized Microsoft® Word or Microsoft® Excel 'reports' from your search results.
