Support : Account Maintenance : Usage Reports by Email

Usage Reports by Email
You can create detailed reports on your usage of Dialog directly on your desktop. All you need is an email address and a standard spreadsheet program (e.g., Excel®).

We deliver, in tab-delimited format, a .TXT file that contains invoice usage records that can be used to generate the following reports:

  • Account Management Report by User Number
  • Account Management report by Subaccount
  • User Number Summary of File Usage

The .TXT file is attached to an email message that is automatically sent to you each month. It can be imported into the spreadsheet application of your choice. (We have provided, as an example for your convenience, a macro that works for Microsoft® Excel 5 or greater, on a PC-based operating system. The download procedures for this example macro are part of the Setup Instructions.)

Dialog treats your invoice data as confidential information. Email addresses will not be used for solicitations.

An Overview of the Process

  1. To receive the data, send an email message to Dialog () requesting the monthly report data. You only need to send this message once.

  2. When you receive an email message from Dialog with the data file attached, save the .TXT file to your hard drive (do not rename the file).

  3. You can now create and view the reports in any common spreadsheet package.

Important Notice to Electronic Invoice Users

As you may be aware, Dialog introduced Connect Time as an option for the search cost component effective 01 January 2002. Importantly, this new billing option will affect your monthly electronic invoice from Dialog.

If you use the Dialog-provided macro for processing your usage each month, you will need to download the new macro that Dialog has provided.

If your organization performs its own post-processing of the electronic invoice data, you will need to adjust for the new format as well. A small sample file with the new data format is available so you can prepare in advance.
