Visto Delivers Wireless Email to KPN Mobile Subscribers in Europe

Cooperation Extends KPN's Wireless Offering and Strengthens Visto's Global Carrier Base for Wireless Email Services

(Redwood Shores, Calif, November 13, 2003) –Visto Corporation (www.visto.com), the leading provider of personal and corporate mobile access solutions that are easy to install, administer and use, has signed an agreement with KPN Mobile, a division of KPN and the leading wireless company in the Netherlands, to bring wireless email services to KPN customers in the Netherlands. KPN is the first carrier to offer customers wireless messaging services from Visto via the i-mode™ platform. This agreement also extends Visto’s global market penetration for wireless email; Visto’s wireless email is offered by leading wireless carriers in the United States, Canada, Asia, and Europe.

KPN customers already have access to Visto’s wireless email technology to wireless subscribers through a new service called OfficeMode that allows users to access their office and Internet email from any i-mode device. KPN customers can benefit from Visto’s MessageXpress wireless email service, enabling corporate or personal email to be received, composed and synchronized over the air to the desktop, via the new breed of smart phones, including the Palm Tungsten W.

“This new relationship with KPN gives us a strong partner to launch our European carrier initiative,” said Paul Burmester, Vice President of European Carrier Sales for Visto. “KPN is both a market leader and a technology innovator, introducing new i-mode capabilities to Europe. Through this agreement, KPN will showcase the value that Visto’s wireless messaging services and MessageXpress bring to carriers around the world, no matter what platform they embrace.”

KPN’s Office Mode is Visto’s first wireless email service on the i-mode platform designed to offer mobile email solutions for the enterprise users. OfficeMode uses Visto technology to provide mobile access to existing office email systems, such as Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange, or any POP3 email system so mobile users can access email, contacts and calendar from any i-mode enabled handheld device. This new service demonstrates that Visto’s email works on any wireless system, including the i-mode platform. KPN was the first licensee of NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode outside of Japan and launched its i-mode service for the Netherlands in April 2002. OfficeMode is available on a growing range of i-mode browser compatible handsets, including devices from Mitsubishi, NEC, Nokia, and Siemens. KPN customers can access OfficeMode from i-mode phones, PDAs, and laptop computers.

“Value-added services such as wireless email are what help differentiate KPN as a market leader,” said Brian Stout, Manager Business Line Business Market for KPN Mobile the Netherlands. “We chose Visto because we believe they are best of breed in the wireless email category and we anticipate that the capabilities of Visto technology built into our mobile solutions will have a strong appeal for our customers.”

KPN customers can also opt for Visto’s MessageXpress as part of a package with the Palm Tungsten W. Customers who purchase a Palm Tungsten W PDA at selected outlets can immediately sign up for advanced wireless services over KPN, including MessageXpress email services. MessageXpress gives users of handheld devices like the Tungsten W access to corporate email from Lotus Notes or Microsoft Exchange, or access to POP3 Internet email including attachments. The advantage of MessageXpress is that it allows mobile users to maintain a single email address allowing them to access, manage, and synchronize email over a secure wireless link.

“This deal marks another milestone in the global adoption of wireless email,” said J. Gerry Purdy, Ph.D., principal analyst for MobileTrax. “As more carriers like KPN offer access to proven, secure wireless messaging solutions like Visto, the market for integrated messaging that brings enterprise email to handheld devices will continue to grow. Wireless messaging is the ‘killer app’ that will drive future sales for smart phones, PDAs, and wireless handheld devices.”
